What we will cover
Power
The development of power comes from exerting oneself through maximum strength to grow muscle fiber and increase the capacity to apply more force to an action. Power is critical to fighters of any discipline who want to strike harder or lift heavier weight.
Endurance
The most common method of increasing endurance is to train the cardiovascular system over progressively longer and more intense periods of time. Endurance is oftentimes the single most important determinant factor in a contest between two otherwise evenly matched opponents.
Stability
Stability incorporates the ability to maintain balance and a general sense of equilibrium from a variety of stances or positions. This is not just important to combat sports, but also to maintaining health of the joints and ensuring that mass is displaced throughout the body and not concentrated on any one area.
Breathing
While it may seem to be a simple consideration, breathing correctly and even remembering to breathe is fundamental to training and to the pursuit of combat sports. Improper breathing can lead to muscle fatigue, a lack of endurance and in some cases even hypoxia.
Flexibility
Increasing the flexibility of the muscle, tendons and joints promotes overall wellness of the body and is proven to reduce injury. Good flexibility is also key to increasing range of motion and critical to any striker or grappler who wishes to engage in competitive combat sports.
Health
Yoga increases the overall health of an individual. All of the combined exercises that build strength, endurance, mindfullness, agility, balance and flexibility will have secondary effects of strengthening the immune system and even increasing brain function.
